In the past few years I have lost a number of friends. Primarily because I have suggested that our current president was not a black man. In Mississippi , a white man saying that Obama is half white is an insult. Let us realize we are no longer racist . We are however deeply rooted in our culture, Normally that is acceptable in all American cultures, except ours .If we say anything that can be remotely considered as such. We are considered racist. I hate to fall back on a sitcom but to quote
George Jefferson, when his son was to marry the daughter of a mixed couple. he called her a zebra. Racist? Perhaps, but it is not the point. I can’t use any analogy to compare mixed breeds that would not bring the house down. Perhaps, I could compose a painting by Picasso and Gauguin. Then take it to Christies in London to sell it as a Picaso.We all know it is not a true Picasso , but it is politically incorrect to say that. Ergo the king is wearing clothes!

Should you be funded by Museum Restoration funds, federal grant, or the National Historic Society we can provide cypress logs, beams, cypress flooring, hand rived cypress shakes, or shingles to meet their specs. We also provide exotic lumber for these projects.

We are the only company in Mississippi that has cypress tongue and groove paneling, hand rived cypress shakes and or cypress shingles. These shakes are known to last for hundreds of years. Shakes also enhance as well as lend a timeless beauty. Cypress shingles have the longevity and a more uniform look. Wood shingles have been around for hundreds of years. Wood shingles just don't go out of style. Having said that, cypress shake replacement under grant by Federal MONIES, National Historic Society, or Museum Restoration is required on any building that had them originally.

Smoke What?

Here we are again. I’ve been seeing certain commercials on TV lately that seem to be increasing exponentially. They cover everything from adopt a dog to how to speak to a homosexual. Perhaps some of these subjects have some validity. They now are the primary source of revenue for commercial TV. At the risk of being a redneck, I have yet to see one of these ads that I was not already aware of the content and the p.c. (political corrective) importance. I have 7 children and 7 grandchildren, all of which over the age of ten are equally well informed. Point, this is for the most part overkill. What I am most concerned about is who in the hell is funding this onslaught of minutia. I fear it is the federal government. Which in itself might seem harmless, except when they decide they want a subject aired which the TV station might think was un-American. It has already been established that you do what your primary sponsor wants. I guess what really set me off was when they screwed with Smokey the Bear. For decades he said, “Only you can prevent forest fires!” Now it has been changed to wildfires. Mother Nature is and always will be the true arsonist of wildfires. We also know you don’t screw with Mother Nature!

I am the grandson of a Mississippi sharecropper. Born in the year 1947. I’ve seen what my grandmother called miracles. I however, never dreamed that I would live to see the demise of this great nation. We are actually letting everything we hold dear slip away as we entertain ourselves. Much as Nero did. Although he didn’t start fiddling till it was pretty well over. I have never been a doomsday crier until now. I’ve watched people elected to political office sell pieces of our constitution. Seen laws telling us that our religious values are incorrect. You aren’t even supposed to say Merry Christmas. Every enemy on earth is expending their resources for the sole purpose of destroying us. For the most part doing it from within. Don’t expect to see a Chinese army walk in until we have collapsed. They don’t need to. We no longer have anything to sell around the world that can’t be bought somewhere else for less money. We continue to allow everyone to bring their wares here even if it is not top quality, or healthy, and if we happen to make the same product we will let them advertise that our products are inferior to theirs. This nation must stop being the police of the world and the sole benefactor to impoverished countries. We no longer have the financial ability to prop up governments that think in a like manner. Let the people of Iraq have what they want or can take. We must return to a education system that educates. One that is not in control of the students. When a child makes an F give it to him, not a C on the curve. We can no longer excuse poor grades because of what happened to our ancestors. As I said earlier, my grandfather was a sharecropper. I never felt this was a good reason to fail. Failure used to be Un-American!

OLD YELLER

It is amazing to watch the media anymore. I was in my couch potato mode a few days ago, waiting for the latest breaking news. Then low and behold, the talking heads were there. Telling me that quote “a raving lunatic had shot a U.S. congresswoman, a sitting federal judge, and a 9-year-old child, a total of 20 people. Six dead.” The reason for this was because of “heated political rhetoric”. I say to you this reasoning is insanity; he did this so the media would glorify him. This fool is not a lunatic he is a punk. If that was my baby, I would want to tear down the jail to kill this bastard, but we don’t want to offend the politically correct. Let us spend our tax dollars to have some pseudo intellectual say he is in fact not quite right. This person obviously never saw Old Yeller. We all knew it was the fault of the rabid wolf, but it didn’t save Old Yeller’s ass. Lest I am accused of rambling I will stop here, may God save us all?

I am now being rumored to be one of the world’s foremost authorities on cypress. That is ridiculous, in as much as the men that taught me were far and away more knowledgeable than I could ever hope to be. These were men that went to the woods at daylight and quit at dark. Winter or summer. They used crosscut saws, sledge hammers and wedges and either oxen or mules to drag the logs out of the woods. I came along at the end of the crosscut and the ox, but I did see them. I saw men on the Mississippi River cut cypress from boats and pick boards. Probably the most dangerous method of timber cutting ever tried. I was a lad at the time, but I will never forget the determination and stamina demonstrated. I suppose my finest hour was when I was paid my first money as a full cutter. ($5.00 a day). I was 15 years old. If I am an authority on anything it is the never changing grit of Americans. If one wants something done in this world, just tell an American that it can’t happen. In closing there was one thing the woods did not teach me and that was obviously grammer.
