 The American Chestnut met its untimely demise at about the turn of the nineteenth century, brought about by the introduction of the Asian Chestnut to this country. This tree carried a virulent fungus and as greed and avarice are want to do. This has been  a condition that until just recently has been without remedy. Although it did give birth to the Wormy Chestnut. Even now with the advent of cloning the American Chestnut, It will still be a lifetime before there will be any thing remotely resembling a harvest and by then the taking of tress for commercial purposes (other than yellow pine) will no longer be allowed in this country. All anyone will know about this tree is that the fruit is extremely expensive, and of course it's majestic beauty.

   Saying that, there is still and abundance of American chestnut available for those who would seek it. However this is not a spectator sport. One must be prepared to go out to rural areas, knock on doors, check the records of defunct companies. If, one can find an individual that remembers the who, what, and when. That will be extremely helpful, but don't count on it. Less I should forget. When you find this product in what is now it's natural state be ready for the good part, because this where the work starts.
